Apply Now For Institute Of Conservation Leadership Delaware River Watershed Professionals Of Color 2022 Cohort

Conservation professionals of color in the Delaware River Watershed region can join a one-year cohort led by Institute for Conservation Leadership.  The deadline to apply is October 19.

Since BIPOC communities in environmental organizations operate in a space with lower representation and higher barriers to advance their careers, this pilot program is intended to create and support a cohort of young professionals in their work. 

There will be special emphasis on staff from organizations in the Delaware River Watershed Initiative and other William Penn Foundation Watershed Protection Program grantees. 

The cohort will have opportunities for career development, network building, and skills development to enhance and advance their professional pursuits.

On September 28, the Lebanon Valley Conservancy preserved a 16-acre farm in Union Township, Lebanon County, owned by Albert Minnich. The farm, located next to Swatara State Park and a large campground, has been in Albert's family for 100 years.  The property has a mature wooded area that provides a home for wildlife like deer and owls. Conserving this property allows for a continuation of lands for recreation, open space, wildlife, and scenic views.  Albert's farm is important for conservation as it falls within the Kittatinny Ridge . DEP Collects $147,250 Penalty From Rice Drilling B LLC For Erosion & Sedimentation Violations In Greene County; DEP Found Rice Had Hundreds Of Other Violations, Including Abandoning Wells Without Plugging Them

On October 6, the Department of Environmental Protection announced it has assessed and collected a $147,250 civil penalty from Rice Drilling B LLC for erosion and sedimentation violations that were documented in 2019 and 2020 at Rice’s Mac well site in Whitely Township, Greene County. According to DEP’s eFACT database , a DEP inspection report on January 9, 2019 found Rice failed to implement post construction management and erosion and sedimentation best management practices (BMPs) in accordance with its permit for constructing and maintaining the well site.  The violations continued as noted in DEP inspection reports on February 27, 2019 and March 11, 2020 . As a result, three land slides developed at the well site causing accelerated erosion and soil to go into three separate rain gardens.  Rice attempted to make repairs but did not fully remediate the issue nor did it fully implement erosion and sedimentation BMPs, resulting in the development of a fourth slide allowing...
